Coastal sub-region of Slovenska Istra in south-west Slovenia (country's only coastal wine zone bordering the Adriatic, flysch sedimentary soils mixed with limestone, Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and mild winters): autochthonous Refošk (Refosco) as signature red (>45%) — rich, taut profile, coastal versions more supple and inland ones more structured, dark flavours and firm acidity. Aromatic Malvasia Istriana and Muscat Jaune as typical whites.
