The Domaine Karanika vineyard is located in a picturesque region of Amyndeon, in the north of Greece. This part of Greece is considered one of the best regions for the production of superior quality sparkling wines, and Domaine Karanika fits perfectly into this tradition. The vineyard is nestled in the heart of the Amyndeon plateau, known for its cool climate due to the altitude and the multiple lakes in the region. This unique climate gives the Domaine Karanika grapes a distinct natural acidity, which is essential for the production of its renowned sparkling wines. Founded in 2006 by Laurens Hartman, a Dutchman who fell in love with the viticultural potential of Greece, Domaine Karanika has become a benchmark for organic wine in Greece. Hartman and his wife Annette van Kampen have adopted a biodynamic approach to vine cultivation, avoiding synthetic chemicals and promoting biodiversity. Domaine Karanika not only stands out for its sustainable viticulture methods, but also for its exclusive dedication to the native Xinomavro grape variety. These vines, aged 40 to 90 years old, are ungrafted, resulting in a wine deeply rooted in the local terroir, and each bottle of Karanika reflects this unique quality. The vineyard's iconic Brut Cuvée Spéciale is slightly cloudy, testifying to the minimal intervention during its production. It is a rich, complex, and sparkling wine with beautiful acidity and a long finish. The vineyard's other offerings include a Brut Rosé, a vibrant effort with notes of strawberry and cherry, and a natural sparkling wine, reminiscent of the fine perlage and complexity of the traditional method.
