The Bisci Estate is a renowned vineyard in the Verdicchio di Matelica region, in the heart of Italy. Nestled between the towering mountainous hills of the Apennines and a unique continental climate, it provides an exceptional setting for viticulture. With its limestone clay soil, it is the preferred setting for the native Verdicchio grape variety, which produces white wines famed for their freshness, intense minerality and ageing potential. For several decades, Bisci Estate has been recognized as a leading producer of Verdicchio di Matelica, regularly endorsed for the quality and authenticity of its wines. The Bisci Estate was founded in 1972 by the Bisci brothers, who quickly established themselves as pioneers of viticulture in harmony with nature. The estate is now managed by the second generation, who continue the family legacy with rigor and passion. Work in the vineyards is carried out with extreme care, respecting traditions and the terroir. Yields are deliberately kept low to preserve the quality of the grapes. The estate, which spans about thirty hectares, stands out for the beauty of its landscapes, where the vineyards are perfectly integrated into the natural environment. Visitors are often struck by this idyllic setting, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills. In the cellar, Bisci wines are vinified with a minimum of intervention, to fully express the character of the Verdicchio. The estate's flagship cuvées are the Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva, a rich and complex wine from old vines, and the Verdicchio di Matelica, a fresher and fruitier wine, ideal for young tasting.

Merlot is a red grape variety with small black berries that appeared at the end of the 18th century. It is produced in most of the Bordeaux terroirs, where it represents 58% of the planted area, and its best terroir is located in Pomerol and Saint-Emilion on cool, clay-limestone soils. At the mythical Château Pétrus, the wine is made with 95% Merlot, with a dark, dense colour, aromas of red and black fruits and a superb range of flavours, the Merlot transforms during its ageing to give way to notes of prunes, undergrowth and spices. On the palate, it is supple with distinguished tannins. It is often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot is no longer exclusive to Bordeaux, it is nowadays vinified all over the world.

Discover the grape variety: Verdicchio

This grape variety was known for a long time in the central region of Italy and is now cultivated in almost all the wine-producing regions of this country. Under the name of peverella, it can still be found in Brazil, where it has occupied large areas for a long time. In France, it is almost unknown. It would seem that it has many relatives, in particular with varieties of Italian origin, known or little known, without us being able to quote them with certainty because the doubt still remains, to be followed! The pink verdicchio exists but is not related to any of them.
