The wine region of Greco di Bianco
Rare Calabrian DOC (1980) on the Ionian coast of Reggio (Bianco, Casignana), reserved exclusively for passito. Greco Bianco (a Malvasia biotype) is the sole grape: raisined (>=35 % water loss), golden-amber robe, intensely aromatic with orange blossom, bergamot, dried fig, candied apricot, dates, honey and a balsamic touch. Opulent palate balanced by a refined finish. Greek tradition since the 7th century BC.
The wine region of Calabria
Italy's far south between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas, a millennia-old tradition (Greek "Oenotria"). Emblematic Gaglioppo (the "black prince"): sun-drenched reds with signature notes of black cherry, candied plum, garrigue, tobacco, spice and balsamic notes, firm tannins — peaking at Ciro DOC on the Ionian coast. Also fleshy Magliocco, dense Nerello, Greco Bianco in a fresh, almondy white, ample Mantonico. Hot Mediterranean climate, volcanic and clay-sandy soils.
The word of the wine: Floral
Said of a wine whose aromas are reminiscent of flowers.
