The wine region of Slanghoek
Ward of the Breedekloof district (Western Cape, South Africa) between the Slanghoek Mountains and the Breede River: Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc as aromatic signature whites, Chardonnay, Sémillon and botrytised hybrids as complements; Shiraz and Cinsault for reds. Mountain shadows shorten hot days and create strong nocturnal temperature swings — acidity and phenolic ripeness preserved. Draining alluvial soils on a gravel bed, varied mesoclimates across the valleys.
The wine region of Western Cape
Cradle of South African wine. Signature Chenin Blanc (Steen, 20%) in ample, fresh whites with notes of quince, yellow apple, honey and acacia flower, from crisp dry to sweet. Sharp, iodised Sauvignon Blanc (Walker Bay, Constantia), balanced Chardonnay. Reds: emblematic Pinotage with roasted aromas (coffee, plum, smoke), firm Cabernet Sauvignon, spicy Syrah.
The word of the wine: Empyreumatic
Families of smells and aromas related to smoke, burnt, and more generally to roasting.
