The wine region of Slanghoek is located in the region of Breedekloof of Western Cape of South Africa. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Opstal or the Domaine Opstal produce mainly wines red, white and sweet. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Slanghoek are Chenin blanc, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Colombard, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Slanghoek often reveals types of flavors of non oak, microbio or oak and sometimes also flavors of tree fruit, spices or citrus fruit.
In the mouth of Slanghoek is a powerful with a nice freshness. We currently count 5 estates and châteaux in the of Slanghoek, producing 41 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Slanghoek go well with generally quite well with dishes of shellfish, spicy food or lean fish.
Felix Debavelaere, from Domaine Rois Mages mentions the different personnalities of the Rully appellation. It is not easy to put it in a single box, not only because it can be produced in red and white but also because the wines can show different characters according to where the vines are planted.
