Adds color and fruit to blends with Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. Essential component of the great reds of Dão DOC, also present in Alentejo DOC and Bairrada DOC. General AVA of Mendocino County (northern California) with varied micro-climates: signature historic Zinfandel as king red (planted by Italian migrants in the late 19th c. ), notably Redwood Valley and Mendocino Ridge - spicy, peppery reds, ripe and candied black fruits, fleshy tannins. Also fresh, fine Pinot Noir (~2,700 ac) on foggy coastal sectors, Carignan, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Grenache. Warm inland zones for Cabernet and Merlot, an eclectic Italo-Burgundian identity.
