Discover the grape variety: Dauphine

Simple, fresh dry whites with a pale golden robe, a supple palate with moderate acidity and undemonstrative aromas of citrus and white flowers. Discreet rustic profile. Preserved in some ampelographic collections, one of the ancient heritage varieties whose commercial diffusion has almost disappeared, studied for its genetic and historical interest. Rare, little-documented white grape grown in negligible quantities.

The wine region of Colares

Historic Portuguese DOC (1908) northwest of Lisbon, between the Atlantic and Sintra. Rare ungrafted vines on pure sand soils that survived phylloxera. Ramisco (≥80%) in austere reds with morello cherry, cedar, undergrowth and a balsamic note, firm tannins and long ageing. Malvasia (≥80%) in saline whites with green apple, herbs and a mineral-iodine edge, lively acidity.

The wine region of Lisboa

Vast coastal IGP north of Lisbon, Portugal's largest producer by volume. Accessible, sun-filled reds: fruity, spicy Castelão, dense Touriga Nacional (black fruit, violet), fleshy Trincadeira, deep Alicante Bouschet. Fresh, mineral whites: straight, lemony Arinto (star of Bucelas), aromatic Fernão Pires, round Vital and Malvasia. Structured reds from Alenquer, sparkling at Óbidos.

The word of the wine: Metis (grape variety)

A grape variety resulting from the crossing of two varieties of the same species. For example, pinotage (a South African grape variety) is the result of crossing pinot noir and cinsault.
