AVA in northwest Yolo County (2002, 102,400 acres, California) between the Blue Ridge Mountains and Capay Hills, 80 miles northeast of San Francisco: Syrah and Viognier dominate with Rhône character; Sauvignon Blanc, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon complement, plus rarer Albariño and Primitivo. Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights, fresh mountain air and Sacramento Delta breezes. Volcanic and rocky soils similar to Lake County, with pebbles and ash.
