Elite typology of Cirò DOC (historic zone of Cirò and Cirò Marina, Classico >=12. 5% abv, Superiore >=13. 5% abv, aging >=2 years including oak): Gaglioppo (>=95%) in a concentrated, structured red with intense candied cherry, tobacco, leather, liquorice, spices and complex tertiary notes, powerful tannins softened by aging, decade-long cellaring potential. Sunny, expressive reds: fleshy, spicy Nero d'Avola (black cherry, blackberry, liquorice), fine, mineral Nerello Mascalese on Etna (recalls Pinot Noir), light, crisp Frappato in Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG. Lively, saline whites: Catarratto, fat, iodised Grillo, taut Carricante, floral Inzolia. Amber, walnutty fortified Marsala.
