The wine region of Haute-Marne
Haute-Marne is the PGI title for wines produced in the department of the same name in the north-east of France. The department Lies roughly in the centre of a triangle formed by the famous wine regions of Champagne, Alsace and Burgundy. The department produces a range of wine styles, from still wines made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Sparkling wines produced using the traditional method. Vin de Pays (VDP), the French national equivalent of PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) at the European level, is a quality category of French wines, positioned between Vin de Table (VDT) and Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC). It underwent several early revisions in the 1970s, followed by substantial changes in September 2000 and again in 2009, when all existing VDT titles were automatically registered with the European Union as PGI.
