High-altitude ward (650–750 m) south of Olifants River in the Cederberg (South Africa), nicknamed the Cape's "Grenache HQ": highest concentration of old unirrigated own-rooted Grenache in South Africa (plantings from 1973). Signature Grenache is fragrant and mineral, Shiraz is savoury, with Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinotage as complements. Sandy-loam soils on east-west slopes, cool nights and warm days — slow ripening, low pH, intense colour and complex aromas.
