Altitude AVA (200-2200 ft, AVA 2013) on the Mayacamas in Sonoma: signature Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel — intensely concentrated reds with deep black fruits, structured tannins from small thick-skinned berries on rocky volcanic soils rich in iron. Above the Sonoma fog, long season and south-west exposure. Also rich Syrah. Comparable to great Howell Mountain and Mount Veeder terroirs, signature long cellaring.
