The wine region of Ruppertsberg
Ruppertsberg is a small Village immediately south-east of Pfalz/deidesheim">Deidesheim, at the heart of the Pfalz wine region in Germany. For its Size (the population is around 1500), the village produces a remarkable proportion of Pfalz's very finest wines. These are almost all made from Riesling, in a style markedly richer and riper than that found almost anywhere else in Germany. Fleshy, dry, fruity Riesling is the region's signature: yellow peach, apricot, ripe citrus, lovely mineral tension. Germany's largest red-wine area (40%), with silky Spätburgunder showing red fruit and spice, darker structured Dornfelder, supple Portugieser. Some rounded Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. A 23,640 ha vineyard along the Haardt, among Germany's warmest (>2,000 h of sun).
