The wine region of Alsace Grand Cru 'Altenberg de Bergheim'
Grand Cru of Bergheim in Haut-Rhin (full south-facing, warm and dry, iron-rich red argillo-calcareous soils on Jurassic limestone and Liassic marls, over-exposed microclimate). Riesling is the signature white (50-70%) complemented by Gewurztraminer (10-25%) and Pinot Gris (10-25%) — dense matter with concentrated ripe fruits, spices, and ferrous minerality. Ancestral co-planted blend authorized since 2005, a wine for aging.
The wine region of Alsace
Capital of great French aromatic whites, most often dry and single-varietal. Straight, mineral Riesling (lemon, gunflint), opulent, exuberant Gewurztraminer (lychee, rose, spices), round, smoky Pinot Gris, floral, crisp Muscat, supple Pinot Blanc. Fine, fruity Crémants d'Alsace, exceptional sweet Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles. 15,500 ha at the foot of the Vosges on varied soils, 51 Grands Crus since 1975.
The word of the wine: Disorder
Said of a wine that is not clear due to the presence of colloidal suspensions that prevent the passage of light.
