The wine region of Yadkin County

Heart of the Yadkin Valley AVA (2003), first AVA of North Carolina on the northwest hills of the state. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the signature reds with blackcurrant, plum, black cherry and a herbaceous touch, balanced tannins. Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petit Verdot add structure. Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc offer aromatic whites.

The wine region of North Carolina

Historic US southeastern wine state (top US producer before Prohibition). Yadkin Valley as the main quality zone: signature Cabernet Franc (red fruit, bell pepper, violet, fresh herbs, supple tannins). Also dense Petit Verdot, round Merlot, fruity Sangiovese. Chardonnay whites and rich Petit Manseng (apricot, honey).

The word of the wine: Aging on lees

Maturing on the lees enhances the stability, aromatic complexity and texture of white wines, which gain in body and volume. This phenomenon is induced by autolysis, the process of self-degradation of the lees.
