A very old vine, said to have originated in Greece. It is found in Spain, including the Canary Islands, in Portugal, including Madeira, in Croatia, etc., and is virtually unknown in France. Weinviertel DAC – whose name translates as "wine quarter" – is an appellation in Niederösterreich (Lower Austria). It is by far the largest Districtus Austriae Controllatus wine region in Austria. The designation applies only to white wines from the Grüner Veltliner Grape variety.
