The wine region of Alsace Grand Cru 'Steingrubler'
Grand Cru of Wettolsheim in Haut-Rhin (~28 ha, 280–350 m, steep south-east-facing slopes, clay-sandy and marly-limestone soils, lower part in grey Muschelkalk). Gewurztraminer signature in white (52%): rich, aromatic, exotic spiced fruits and full palate. Riesling (26%) precise on the siliceous upper section, Pinot Gris (22%) generous on limestone. Long-ageing wines.
The wine region of Alsace
Capital of great French aromatic whites, most often dry and single-varietal. Straight, mineral Riesling (lemon, gunflint), opulent, exuberant Gewurztraminer (lychee, rose, spices), round, smoky Pinot Gris, floral, crisp Muscat, supple Pinot Blanc. Fine, fruity Crémants d'Alsace, exceptional sweet Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles. 15,500 ha at the foot of the Vosges on varied soils, 51 Grands Crus since 1975.
The word of the wine: Aging
Period during which a wine is kept in a cellar where it goes through different phases of evolution of its aromatic range and a maturation of its constituents (evolution of the colour, refining of the tannins, harmonization of the different flavours, etc.). The wine evolves better and less quickly in large containers, whereas it deteriorates prematurely in half-bottles.
