An interspecific cross between Merlot noir and Kozma 20-3 (also the same parents of Merlot Khantus) obtained in 2002 by Simone Diego Castellarin and Guido Cipriani at the Institute of Applied Genomics in Udine, Italy. Merlot khorus is particularly resistant to mildew and tolerant to powdery mildew. Known in Italy ... almost unknown in France, not registered in the Official Catalogue of wine grape varieties.

The wine region of Maures is located in the region of Méditerranée of Vin de Pays of France. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Peyrassol or the Domaine d'Astros produce mainly wines pink, red and white. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Maures are Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Chardonnay, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. Vin de Pays (VDP), the French national equivalent of PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) at the European level, is a quality category of French wines, positioned between Vin de Table (VDT) and Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC).
