It is most certainly one of the oldest vitis vinifera varieties found mainly in the southwestern part of Bulgaria, and is not known elsewhere - except perhaps in neighbouring Greece and Macedonia - than in this country where it is recognized as endemic. It should not be confused with Ranna Melnishka Loza, also known as Melnik 55, which is the result of crosses between this Melnik and several known Vitis viniferas, including Valdiguié.

The wine region of Central Valley
The Central Valley (El Valle Central) of Chile is one of the most important wine-producing areas in South America in terms of Volume. It is also one of the largest wine regions, stretching from the Maipo Valley (just south of Santiago) to the southern end of the Maule Valley. There are no specific regulations governing the term "vieilles vignes". After 20 to 25 years, the yields stabilize and tend to decrease, the vines are deeply rooted, and the grapes that come from them give richer, more concentrated, more sappy wines, expressing with more nuance the characteristics of their terroir. It is possible to find plots of vines that claim to be a century old.
