The wine region of Beaumes-de-Venise
Two-faced Southern Rhône cru (Vaucluse): signature Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise VDN from Muscat à Petits Grains as sweet white king — pale to golden robe with signature aromas of white flowers, tropical fruits and exceptional length, fortification ≥15% alcohol, toffee evolution with age. Powerful reds in the sister AOC (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre). VDN AOC 1945, foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, clay-sand soils.
The wine region of Rhone Valley
France's 2nd-largest AOC vineyard, two complementary worlds. Northern: pure Syrah in signature reds (Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Cornas), deep and peppery with blackberry, violet, black olive and smoked bacon notes, exceptional ageing. Opulent Viognier whites (Condrieu, apricot, flowers) and ample Marsanne-Roussanne. Southern: sun-soaked Grenache blends at Châteauneuf, Gigondas, Vacqueyras (candied fruit, garrigue).
The word of the wine: Serious
A Bordeaux term for small pebbles from the Pyrenees, eroded, rounded and transported by the Garonne to Aquitaine. They are mainly found on the left bank in the area.... known as the Graves, and further downstream in the Médoc. By extension, gravel is found in other regions, brought by other rivers or even glaciers.
