The wine region of Malibu Coast is located in the region of South Coast of California of United States. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Malibu Rocky Oaks or the Domaine Dolin produce mainly wines red, sweet and pink. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Malibu Coast are Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet franc and Petit Verdot, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Malibu Coast often reveals types of flavors of non oak, oak or spices and sometimes also flavors of red fruit.
In the mouth of Malibu Coast is a powerful with a nice balance between acidity and tannins. We currently count 4 estates and châteaux in the of Malibu Coast, producing 7 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Malibu Coast go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, lamb or game (deer, venison).
In a year when travel was almost impossible, wine has been a fine companion. In terms of varieties I have been drinking a vinous A to Z: everything from Albillo (Cebreros) to Zibibbo (Pantelleria, Italy). Specifically I have been enjoying Cariñena from Priorat and Rioja, plus Garnachas – white, red and hairy – from Terra Alta, Rioja and Gredos, as well as Greek Xinomavro from Naoussa and Xarel.lo from Catalunya. There has been buyer and trade enthusiasm for California’s 2018-vintage releases, yet there is still a sense of the region finding its way on the international fine wine market.
