The wine region of Arghillà
IGT of the far southern tip of Calabria (province of Reggio Calabria, Mediterranean climate, view over the Strait of Messina). Gaglioppo: structured, savoury red with black cherry, plum, garrigue, herbs and a tannic-saline edge — Calabria's principal red. Greco Nero in full-bodied rosés with red fruit. Greco Bianco, Malvasia Bianca and Guarnaccia in sunny whites with blossom, citrus and an iodine-saline note.
The wine region of Calabria
Italy's far south between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas, a millennia-old tradition (Greek "Oenotria"). Emblematic Gaglioppo (the "black prince"): sun-drenched reds with signature notes of black cherry, candied plum, garrigue, tobacco, spice and balsamic notes, firm tannins — peaking at Ciro DOC on the Ionian coast. Also fleshy Magliocco, dense Nerello, Greco Bianco in a fresh, almondy white, ample Mantonico. Hot Mediterranean climate, volcanic and clay-sandy soils.
The word of the wine: New wine
Wine of the year, fruity and easy to drink. Beaujolais Nouveau is not the only one in this category, the Côtes-du-Rhône, Touraine and Gaillac appellations also produce new wines.
