The wine region of Valle del Cinca
Aragonese Vino de la Tierra (2005) in the Cinca valley (Huesca, near the Catalan border), dry continental climate. Tempranillo and Garnacha lead in the reds with crushed strawberry, raspberry, cherry, garrigue and a spiced-pepper note, round tannins and vibrant fruit. Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah provide structure. Macabeo and Muscat of Alexandria produce aromatic whites with floral and musky notes.
The wine region of Aragon
Autonomous community of northeast Spain, historic kingdom of Iberian red Grenache (~75%). Signature Garnacha: generous and sun-drenched with signature ripe cherry, crushed strawberry, garrigue, kirsch, sweet spice and a balsamic touch, round tannins and a warm, alcoholic palate. 4 major DOs: Cariñena the largest (old vines), Calatayud high-altitude, Campo de Borja and Somontano at the Pyrenean foothills. Fresh Macabeo and Garnacha blanca whites.
The word of the wine: Destemming
Action consisting in separating the grapes from the stalk before vinification. The stalk, the woody part of the bunch, may give the wine an unpleasant vegetal character.
