DOC of northern Apulia (Foggia, Lucera, Biccari, Troia at the foot of the Daunian Apennines, recognised 1975), sunny clay-limestone soils. Uva di Troia (Sumarello, 35-60%) is the signature red: full-bodied and fruity with dark cherry, blackberry, plum, southern spices and a tannic-balsamic finish, complemented by Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera as softeners. Trebbiano, Bombino and Malvasia (15-30%) add aromatic finesse. Tradition of leased palmenti.
