Discovering the wine region of Swellendam

The wine region of Swellendam is located in the region of Cape South Coast of Western Cape of South Africa. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Sijnn or the Domaine Sijnn produce mainly wines red and white. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Swellendam are Mourvèdre, Chardonnay and Touriga nacional, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Swellendam often reveals types of flavors of non oak, earth or microbio and sometimes also flavors of oak, spices or red fruit.

In the mouth of Swellendam is a powerful with a nice freshness. We currently count 3 estates and châteaux in the of Swellendam, producing 9 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Swellendam go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, lamb or spicy food.
