The wine region of Lancaster Valley

AVA in southern Pennsylvania (Lancaster County, climate moderated by Chesapeake Bay), rich, well-drained soils. Chambourcin and Vidal Blanc are the signature hybrids: supple, fruity red with cherry and raspberry notes, and a crisp white with citrus and white flowers. Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Franc and Merlot add structured vinifera with fresh fruit and herbaceous touches. Seyval Blanc and Cayuga White round out the hybrids.

The wine region of Pennsylvania

Historic East Coast vineyard (planted from 1683 by William Penn). Cabernet Franc as flagship: fresh, peppery reds with notes of raspberry, ripe bell pepper, violet and fresh herbs, supple tannins. Colourful, fruity Chambourcin hybrid (cherry, plum), off-dry Vidal Blanc with exotic fruit, aromatic Traminette (rose, lychee). Also mineral Riesling and Chardonnay.

The word of the wine: Malic (acid)

An acid that occurs naturally in many wines and is transformed into lactic acid during malolactic fermentation.
