Easternmost sub-region of the Douro (Portugal), the hottest and driest (under 400 mm/year, poor schist soils, thermal amplitude up to 20°C, sheltered from the Marão): Touriga Nacional is the signature red — intense violet, blackcurrant, blackberry and mountain herb aromas, powerful tannins and exceptional ageing potential.
