The wine region of Alsace Grand Cru 'Altenberg de Wolxheim'
Grand Cru of Wolxheim in Bas-Rhin (31. 2 ha at 200-250 m, very dry south-east exposure at the foot of the Horn rock, Lias-Dogger marl-limestone subsoil rich in gravel, deep clay soils at the base and skeletal soils with oolitic pebbles on the slopes): Riesling as the signature white king (18 ha, two thirds) — a harmonious, full-bodied profile with fine marl-limestone aromas, a generous gastronomic age-worthy wine. Gewurztraminer (8 ha) as opulent complementary white.
The wine region of Alsace
Capital of great French aromatic whites, most often dry and single-varietal. Straight, mineral Riesling (lemon, gunflint), opulent, exuberant Gewurztraminer (lychee, rose, spices), round, smoky Pinot Gris, floral, crisp Muscat, supple Pinot Blanc. Fine, fruity Crémants d'Alsace, exceptional sweet Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles. 15,500 ha at the foot of the Vosges on varied soils, 51 Grands Crus since 1975.
The word of the wine: Flavours
There are generally four so-called fundamental flavours: acidity, bitterness, sweetness and saltiness. The first three are considered to be the building blocks of the structure of wines. They are perceived by the taste buds that cover the surface of the tongue.
