The wine region of Delaware

Delaware is a state on the east coast of the United States, bordered by New Jersey, Maryland and the Atlantic Ocean. Vinifera and Hybrid grapes thrive in the state's cool maritime Climate and Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Chambourcin are all planted in small quantities. However, while the neighboring states of New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia have well-established wine industries, Delaware has very little wine-making activity and only a handful of wineries produce Delaware wines. Currently, there are no American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) in Delaware, other than the Generic state appellation, and Delaware wines are not well known outside the state.

The volcanic fumes caused breathing problems as well as the cancellation of flights and fruit harvests, including grapes. Despite 7,000 people needing evacuation from the flow of the lava, there was only one fatality during the entire eruption. As the lava flow eventually covered over 1,000ha, mo ...

Port producer proposes new classification for ‘young harvest’ releases

His proposal comes amid wider efforts to help reinvigorate the Port category. This year, Portugal’s Port and Douro Wine Institute, the I ...

Sale of six-litre DRC wine ‘rescinded’ amid counterfeit concerns

Acker announced in September that it had sold a six-litre bottle of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s (DRC) ‘Romanée-Conti’ 2002 at a Hong Kong auction for nearly HK$3.1m (US$398,400). However, it’s understood that the sale of the bottle was subsequently cancelled. Doubts about the wine’s authenticity have been raised by lawyer and wine fraud expert Don Cornwell on the Wine Beserkers website. He also expressed concerns about another wine, a six-litre bottle of DRC Romanée-Conti 2000, which was origi ...

The word of the wine: Consistency

In tasting, it is the equivalent of chewing (the chewiness of a tannic red wine is also mentioned). We then speak of firmness, fluidity, softness, hardness, and why not the crunchiness of an early wine by reference to the grape.
