German grape variety obtained in 1916 by Georg Shere (1879/1949). It was given until then as coming from a cross between Riesling and Sylvaner, but genetic tests have shown that its father is the Bouquettraube (Bukettrebe), and it is closely related to the Kerner. The Scheurebe can be found in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia, Great Britain, the United States (California, Virginia, ...), Canada (Ontario, British Columbia, ...), ... practically unknown in France.

Bugey is a wine region in the Ain department of eastern France. The Bugey appellation covers red, white, rosé and Sparkling wines from a range of Grape varieties. The more specific Roussette du Bugey appellation applies to the Rich white wines produced in the region from the Altesse grape. Cultivated in the 19th century in all the northern vineyards, this black grape variety has largely regressed since. Very present in the Marne valley, it constitutes a third of the vineyards in Champagne, alongside pinot noir and chardonnay with which it is often blended. It brings roundness and red and yellow fruit aromas to champagnes. Pinot meunier is also the dominant grape variety in red and rosé wines in the Orleans AOC and the rare Touraine-Noble-Joué, a grey wine. Syn.: meunier.
