Full-coloured and structured reds with a deep ruby colour, firm tannins and dense palate, with simple aromas of black fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant), spices and herbaceous notes. Now rare in France, it features in traditional and heritage Bordeaux blends. Still grown in California and Australia under this name for specialist vineyards. Cradle of Port: opulent fortified wine with notes of candied black fruit, cocoa, fig, walnut and spice, from young fruity Ruby to oxidative amber Tawny, plus age-worthy LBV and Vintage of exceptional cellaring.
