The wine region of Colli della Sabina
Sub-zone DOC of Soave (Veneto, Monteforte d'Alpone, vineyards at the foot of Soave's limestone escarpment): Garganega ≥70% signature as white king — more opulent and aromatic alluvial plain profile than hillside Soave Classico, notes of white peach, lemon, white flowers, honey and characteristic sweet almond touch. Trebbiano di Soave and Chardonnay as complements (≤30%). Alluvial soils and high-production zones. Youthful accessibility.
The wine region of Lazio
Two-millennia Roman vineyard, predominantly white on the volcanic soils of the Castelli Romani. Frascati DOC as figurehead: fresh, accessible whites based on Malvasia and Trebbiano, notes of green apple, white flowers and almond, slightly bitter finish. Also Bellone and Grechetto. Emblematic red: Cesanese del Piglio DOCG, fleshy with notes of ripe cherry, dry herbs and spice, round tannins.
The word of the wine: Ugni blanc
White grape variety of Italian origin, and the main white variety grown in France. Its large bunches give fine, light and lively wines, suitable for distillation: today it is the main variety for making cognac and armagnac. Ugni blanc, which is a little richer in alcohol when grown in Mediterranean regions, is used in the blending of the Provence and Corsica appellations, often in association with other grape varieties that bring aromas and structure, such as clairette, grenache blanc or sauvignon. Ugni blanc is also used, on a secondary basis, in the production of certain white wines in Gironde (AOC Bordeaux, Entre-deux-Mers, etc.).
