The wine region of Albany
GI sub-region of Great Southern (Western Australia, ~70 ha) on the south coast around Albany: Pinot Noir is the signature with a refined cool-climate profile, elegant Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Shiraz as complements. Temperate Mediterranean climate moderated by the "Albany Doctor" — a sea breeze arriving daily at 1 pm, humidity ~85%. Lateritic, sandy-gravelly and sandy-loamy soils on gneiss bedrock.
The wine region of Australie de l'Ouest
Australian premium on Margaret River. Signature Bordeaux Cabernet-Merlot blends in red: deep and refined with notes of ripe blackcurrant, eucalyptus, cedar and graphite, firm tannins and great ageing, often compared to Médoc. Chardonnay rated Australia's best: taut, saline and mineral (lemon, hazelnut, brioche). Lively Sauvignon-Sémillon (citrus, cut grass).
The word of the wine: Balsamic
Aromas reminiscent of balsam, resin, incense, but also vanilla or liquorice wood.
