The wine region of Laujar-Alpujarra

Andalusian Vino de la Tierra (2004) on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada (Almería), terraced vineyards between 800 and 1,500 m, dry continental climate with marked temperature swings. Garnacha Tinta, Tempranillo, Monastrell and Syrah are the signature reds: fleshy and sun-drenched with ripe cherry, blackberry, plum and a spiced hint, firm tannins. Jaén Blanco, Macabeo and Chardonnay as fresh high-altitude whites. Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel in sweet wines.

The wine region of Andalousie

Dry, sun-baked southern Spain, world cradle of fortified and oxidative wines. Sherry from Jerez is the signature: Palomino Fino under a veil of flor yields lively, saline Fino with signature notes of almond, yeast, green apple and a sharp iodine edge; more maritime Manzanilla (Sanlúcar); unveiled Oloroso in grand oxidation (walnut, caramel, tobacco). Pedro Ximénez from Montilla-Moriles: intense dark sweet (fig, raisin, coffee, molasses). Also muscat Málaga.

The word of the wine: Open

Said of a wine with a full and expressive nose, generally at its peak.
