Lively, aromatic whites with sharp acidity and a sleek palate, with intense aromas of grapefruit, lime, fresh herbs, fennel, green almond and saline notes. Typically slightly bitter finish. Absolute star of Rueda DO in Castile-León, now widely exported. Also made as lees-aged and oak-influenced structured cuvées. Native Spanish variety, an ancient Castilian grape.
IGP Vino de la Tierra (2003) covering 32 communes between Zaragoza and Huesca (Gállego valley and Cinco Villas), gravelly terraces, continental climate swept by the cierzo. Garnacha Tinta is the red king: fleshy and sun-drenched with black cherry, plum, raspberry, garrigue and a peppery touch, supple tannins and generous body. Tempranillo, Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah add structure. Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo give fresh whites.
