The wine region of Cotes de l'Orbe is located in the region of Vaud of Switzerland. Wineries and vineyards like the Château de Valeyres or the Château de Valeyres produce mainly wines red, white and pink. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Cotes de l'Orbe are Gamay noir, Gamaret and Pinot noir, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Cotes de l'Orbe often reveals types of flavors of red fruit.
In the mouth of Cotes de l'Orbe is a with a nice freshness. We currently count 17 estates and châteaux in the of Cotes de l'Orbe, producing 80 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Cotes de l'Orbe go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, veal or game (deer, venison).
Intraspecific cross between gamay noir and reichensteiner obtained in 1970 by André Jacquinet at the Agroscope Changins-Wädenswil research station (Switzerland). From these same parents he also obtained the gamaret and the garanoir. It should not be confused with the Romanian direct producer hybrid, also black, resulting from an interspecific cross between 12 303 Seyve-Villard and ozana. Mara is mainly cultivated in Switzerland and is virtually unknown in France.
