The wine region of Alicante
DOP of the southeast of Valencia, land of Monastrell (Mourvedre) under Mediterranean sun. Dense, sun-soaked reds with signature notes of blackberry, candied plum, garrigue, leather, cocoa and sweet spices, firm tannins and a warm palate. A mythical jewel: Fondillon, a naturally sweet wine from Monastrell raisined on the vine, solera-aged >=8 years, 16-18% alcohol, only ~10 cellars (Vinalopo). Also Muscat of Alexandria as a floral sweet wine (orange blossom, honey).

Wine region of southeastern Spain on sunny high plateaus, 3 DOs fanning out: Jumilla, Yecla, Bullas. The free-run wine is the wine that flows out of the vat by gravity at the time of running off. The marc soaked in wine is then pressed to extract a rich and tannic wine. Free-run wine and press wine are then aged separately and eventually blended by the winemaker in proportions defined according to the type of wine being made.
