The wine region of Alsace Grand Cru 'Kastelberg'
Exclusive Grand Cru on schist above Andlau in the Bas-Rhin (5. 82 ha on vertiginous slopes, the only Alsatian vineyard on Silurian Steige schist transformed into hard quartz-mica-chlorite rock by neighbouring granite, stony draining soils forcing deep roots): Riesling as exclusive signature in white — intense profile with notes of candied lemon and flint, unique elegance, complexity and aromatic power from black schist, exceptional ageing potential.
The wine region of Alsace
Capital of great French aromatic whites, most often dry and single-varietal. Straight, mineral Riesling (lemon, gunflint), opulent, exuberant Gewurztraminer (lychee, rose, spices), round, smoky Pinot Gris, floral, crisp Muscat, supple Pinot Blanc. Fine, fruity Crémants d'Alsace, exceptional sweet Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles. 15,500 ha at the foot of the Vosges on varied soils, 51 Grands Crus since 1975.
The word of the wine: Alcoholic fermentation
Transformation of sugars into alcohol under the effect of yeast. These yeasts exist in their natural state in the vineyards and in the cellars. Artificial seeding with selected yeasts is however very often practiced.
