It was given until then as coming from a cross between Riesling and Sylvaner, but genetic tests have shown that its father is the Bouquettraube (Bukettrebe), and it is closely related to the Kerner. The wine region of Serra da Estrela is located in the region of Dão of Beiras of Portugal. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Casa da Passarella or the Domaine Antonio Madeira produce mainly wines white, red and pink. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Serra da Estrela are Touriga nacional, Fernao Pires and Alvarinho, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Serra da Estrela often reveals types of flavors of non oak, earth or microbio and sometimes also flavors of oak, spices or red fruit.
