Simple, dry and fresh whites with a pale golden colour, a supple palate with moderate acidity and undemonstrative aromas of citrus and white flowers. A discreet rustic profile. Preserved in a few ampelographic collections, this is one of the old heritage varieties whose commercial diffusion has virtually disappeared and is studied for its genetic and historical interest. The wine region of Rosso Conero Riserva
DOCG of the Marche on the Conero promontory south of Ancona (Adriatic coast, chalky-clay soils, continental climate tempered by the sea, DOCG 2004): Montepulciano red king (≥85%) — black cherry, blackberry and plum underpinned by black pepper, Mediterranean herbs and saline minerality. Alcohol ≥12. 5%, minimum 2-year ageing, cellaring potential up to 10 years. A racé maritime red.
The wine region of Marche
Italian star of Verdicchio: exceptional age-worthy whites, straight and mineral with signature notes of green almond, lemon, green apple, dry herbs and a slightly bitter finish. Two DOCGs: Castelli di Jesi (coastal, airy) and Matelica (inland, more concentrated). Mediterranean reds: fleshy Montepulciano in Rosso Conero near Ancona, supple Sangiovese. Also fresh Pecorino and Passerina.
The word of the wine: Consistency
In tasting, it is the equivalent of chewing (the chewiness of a tannic red wine is also mentioned). We then speak of firmness, fluidity, softness, hardness, and why not the crunchiness of an early wine by reference to the grape.
