Powerful dye-grape profile with red-fleshed pulp. Formerly planted en masse in the South of France to intensify the color of Mediterranean blends. The wine region of Western Cape
Cradle of South African wine. Signature Chenin Blanc (Steen, 20%) in ample, fresh whites with notes of quince, yellow apple, honey and acacia flower, from crisp dry to sweet. Sharp, iodised Sauvignon Blanc (Walker Bay, Constantia), balanced Chardonnay. Reds: emblematic Pinotage with roasted aromas (coffee, plum, smoke), firm Cabernet Sauvignon, spicy Syrah.
The word of the wine: Primeur
Said of wines from the last vintage and, by extension, wines of the year, fruity and easy-drinking, put on sale on the third Thursday in November. The AOC regulations specify that a wine is said to be primeur if it is bottled before the spring, and nouveau if it is bottled before the following harvest.
