In preparation for this column I tasted 46 reds in total, and – taking both quality and value into account – I can recommend 33 of them. A total of £72,600 was raised from 79 lots at the sixteenth DWWA wine auction hosted by Christie’s on 2 December – beating a record set in 2018. This total excludes Christie’s buyer’s premium. I clearly remember the summer of 2014 in the Rhône. We were there on holiday, staying not far from the hill of Hermitage.
