Discover the grape variety: Iona

It is said to come from a seedling of diana - the latter is also a seedling of catawba - and propagated in 1860 by Dr. C.W. Grant, the introduction in the United States would date from 1863. Other ampelographers give it as coming directly from a seedling of catawba. The only certainty is that it is an interspecific cross with Vitis Labrusca as a parent. It should be noted that it is the parent of the diamond and the golden muscat. Iona can be found in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, etc. In France it is totally unknown. This variety can only be of interest to amateur gardeners, on the one hand to enlarge their collections and on the other hand, because it produces an excellent juice.

South East Australia is a geographical indication (GI) covering the entire south-eastern third of Australia. The western boundary of this area extends 2,000 kilometres (1,250 miles) across the Australian continent from the Pacific coast of Queensland to the Southern Ocean coast of South Australia. This vast wine 'super zone' effectively encompasses all the major Australian wine regions outside Western Australia. Walls: Cave de Cairanne, back from the brink

In the same way that a private domaine can support a family, a co-operative winery can support an entire village. So when the Cave de Cairanne was effectively declared bankrupt in 2014, a whole community of growers was left hanging from a thread. ‘Closing a co-op is like closing a church. It supports businesses, families, generations,’ says Denis Crespo. He’s an unlikely saviour, as his roots are in natural winemaking. But he provided the necessary electric shock to get the co-op’s heart pumping ...

Lafite Rothschild 2021 was released at €470 per bottle ex-Bordeaux this morning (7 June) and was being offered en primeur by UK merchants at the equivalent of £5,808 per 12-bottle case in bond, said Liv-ex, a global marketplace for the trade. Decanter’s Georgie Hindle rated Lafite 2021 at 97 points, a strong performance in one of the more challenging Bordeaux vintages of recent years. ‘Surely a contender for wine of the vintage, certainly on the Left Bank. Vibrant and explosive,’ Hindle wrote. L ...
