It is most certainly one of the oldest vitis vinifera varieties found mainly in the southwestern part of Bulgaria, and is not known elsewhere - except perhaps in neighbouring Greece and Macedonia - than in this country where it is recognized as endemic. It should not be confused with Ranna Melnishka Loza, also known as Melnik 55, which is the result of crosses between this Melnik and several known Vitis viniferas, including Valdiguié.

South East Australia is a geographical indication (GI) covering the entire south-eastern third of Australia. Said of wines from the last vintage and, by extension, wines of the year, fruity and easy-drinking, put on sale on the third Thursday in November. The AOC regulations specify that a wine is said to be primeur if it is bottled before the spring, and nouveau if it is bottled before the following harvest. Beaujolais Nouveau is therefore a vin primeur.
