Discover the grape variety: Camaralet

Structured and aromatic whites with pale golden colour, ample mouth with preserved acidity, showing signature aromas of fennel, white pepper, cinnamon, anise and remarkable spicy notes. Singular Béarnais identity profile. Very rare (under 1 ha), often blended with Lauzet and Gros Manseng. Autochthonous French white grape from Béarn (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), also called Camaralet de Lasseube.

The wine region of Escherndorf

Franconian village on a bend of the Main, renowned for the Lump (VDP Grosse Lage, 25 ha), a concave south-facing amphitheatre on Muschelkalk (Triassic shell limestone). Silvaner is the signature white — dry and mineral with intense pear, citrus, green apple, herbs and a stony-saline edge, superb finesse and ageing. Taut Riesling complements. Home of Horst and Rainer Sauer estates.

The wine region of Franken

Homeland of German Silvaner: dry, straight, mineral and lively whites with notes of green apple, citrus, fresh herbs and a saline touch, planted here for over 350 years (1,500 ha, a quarter of the vineyard). Also supple, floral Müller-Thurgau, taut Riesling, aromatic Bacchus. Some discreet reds (Spätburgunder). 6,040 ha in Bavaria along the Main around Würzburg, red sandstone and shell-limestone soils.

The word of the wine: Powdery mildew

Disease of the vine due to a fungus. Less dreadful than mildew, it only attacks the surface of the green parts. Sulphur has long been the best remedy.
