The wine region of Pedernal Valley
High-altitude sub-region in southern San Juan (Argentina), vineyards at 1,300 m on gravelly flint-shard soils ("pedernal"), cold nights and intense UV. Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon signature reds: elegant and precise with blackberry, cassis, plum, violet, spice and fresh mineral hints, ripe tannins and preserved acidity — tauter than Mendoza neighbours. Complex Syrah in red. Vibrant Sauvignon Blanc and taut Chardonnay in fresh whites.
The wine region of San Juan
Argentina's 2nd province by volume, a very sunny Andean oasis (<30 cloudy days/year). Signature Syrah (~22% of Argentine Syrah): intense, sun-drenched reds with signature notes of blackberry, black plum, pepper, olive, violet and sweet spice, round tannins and vivid fruit. Also fleshy Malbec, supple Bonarda, spicy Tempranillo. Floral, muscat Torrontes and ample Chardonnay in white.
The word of the wine: Austere
A full-bodied, closed wine whose qualities are noticeable, but which does not express its full potential.
