This grape variety is native to the Balearic Islands (Spain), more precisely to the island of Mayorque, and has been cultivated for a very long time. It is said to be the result of a natural cross between the Callet Cas Concos (Negrella) and the Fogoneu, the former being in danger of extinction. The wine region of Drôme is located in the region of Méditerranée of Vin de Pays of France. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Lombard or the Domaine de Montine produce mainly wines red, white and pink. It underwent several early revisions in the 1970s, followed by substantial changes in September 2000 and again in 2009, when all existing VDT titles were automatically registered with the European Union as PGI.
