The wine region of Amyndeon
PDO in north-west Greek Macedonia (the most northerly and cool plateau at 570–770 m surrounded by four climate-regulating lakes, draining alluvial sandy soils): Xinomavro is the exclusive indigenous signature red (100%) — a brighter, fresher profile than Naoussa with red berries, high acidity and deep colour. Distinctive sparkling wines unique in Greece alongside structured still versions. Rainy winters, dry summers, rapid drainage, excellence in northern Xinomavro.
The wine region of Macedonia
Large wine region of northern Greece, 1st by volume, altitude vineyards tempered by mountain massifs. Signature Xinomavro ("acid black") as king grape: structured, complex reds with signature notes of tart cherry, dried tomato, black olive, Mediterranean herbs, leather and a mineral touch, firm tannins and long ageing — compared to Nebbiolo. Stars in PDO Naoussa, Amyndeon, Goumenissa and Rapsani. Also lively, mineral Assyrtiko, aromatic Malagousia as whites.
The word of the wine: Alcohol
