A very old grape variety that was once grown on the left bank of the Drac Valley in the south of the Isère department - Cordéac, Saint Jean d'Hérans, Saint Baudille et Pipet, ... -. Virtually unknown in other French wine-growing regions, it is very little propagated today, although it is registered in the Official Catalogue of wine grape varieties, list A1. According to Thierry Lacombe (I.N.R.A./Montpellier), it is the result of a natural intraspecific cross between the white gouais and the chatus, as is also the serenèze of Voreppe.

The wine region of Alsace
Alsace, located in the extreme north-east of France, is Distinguished from other French wine regions by its strong Franco-Germanic influences. These influences are the result of a back-and-forth between the German and French sovereignties over the last few centuries. Quantity of grapes harvested per hectare. In AOC, the average yield is limited on the proposal of the appellation syndicate, validated by the Inao. The use of high-performance plant material (especially clones) and better control of vine diseases have increased yields. This is not without consequences on the quality of the wines (dilution) and on the state of the market (too much wine). We must not over-simplify: low yields are not synonymous with quality, and it is often in years with generous harvests that we find the greatest vintages (1982 and 1986 in Bordeaux, 1996 in Champagne, 1990 and 2005 in Burgundy...).
