This variety is the result of an intraspecific cross between Pinot Noir and Pirovano 1 (Chasselas rose x Hamburg Muscat), obtained in 1939 by Heinrich Birk at the Geinsenheim Research Station (Germany). The wine region of Genève

Geneva, at the western end of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), is the second-largest city in Switzerland and the country's third-largest wine producing canton after Valais and Vaud.
